Health Equity is integral to SJPC’s definition of Social Justice. We understand “Health Equity” as requiring a commitment to:

  • Ensuring that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be healthy by eliminating health disparities

  • Recognizing that racism is a social determinant of health that threatens health equity objectives

  • Bringing awareness to racism as a public health crisis, and investing in and promoting racial equity as a means of addressing social determinants of health

  • Removing obstacles to health and health care such as poverty, discrimination, unemployment, and lack of housing and safe environments
