Introducing SJPC Fellow, Tara Abraham

I may be your average college student, but I have a voice, and I’m not afraid to use it. I have remained silent for too long, not speaking up when I should have because I was scared or too self-conscious. But not anymore.

I reside in Sacramento, California with my parents and younger brother. I am also majoring in Communication and minoring in Political Science.

I believe that one of the greatest injustices is not doing something when you have the skillset to do so. I know how discouraging it can be to hear about all the problems affecting our world, and I also know how easy it is to tune everything out and continue with our lives. But just because you ignore a problem doesn’t make it go away.

I started a blog at www.taratakeson.com to raise awareness about various social injustices as they are all intertwined. But sometimes, to better help others, we have to work on ourselves too. Knowing this, I write posts on personal development as well as on social injustices.

When I am not writing or studying, I enjoy playing the piano and watching Youtube videos. I am also a huge fan of Marvel movies. I am a public speaker with Toastmasters International.

While I’m not sure what the future holds, none of us do; I feel prepared to be my own advocate and advocate for those who deserve to be heard.
